While I was searching for local coffee shops in my area, a place popped up called “Mudd Puddle Cafe” and it is located on the famous Water Street Market in New Paltz, New York. Knowing that this area of New Paltz is known for its high draw from college students and tourists alike, I had to see why this shop specifically is able to survive the high standards of its surroundings. For starters, I quickly realized that the street is perfect for enjoying your coffee outdoors. When I got my order I sat down with a friend and played chess on one of the several chess tables located on the strip.

I tried two drinks: the Minty Mocha and the Salted Caramel Latte. The Minty Mocha stood out by far in my opinion with its rich and bold flavor that easily outshines your average Starbucks or Dunkin’ run. The Salted Caramel Latte wasn’t bad by any means, but it didn’t quite hit the same depth of taste for me.

The shop itself had a bit of a disheveled aesthetic that didn’t quite match the charm of its surroundings. It’s not the kind of place I’d hang out in for hours, but the friendly staff made up for that, and luckily, the outdoor seating (and the area in general) is where the real experience shines.
They also offered a small selection of baked goods and had a kitchen serving actual meals, which is always a plus when you’re looking for more than just a caffeine fix.

If you’re in the area and need a good cup of coffee to accompany a stroll through one of New Paltz’s prettiest markets, this place is worth a stop!!!
